Divorce and self-esteem

On Behalf of | Jun 29, 2020 | Divorce

When someone brings their marriage to an end, a wide variety of hardships often arise. Aside from the financial toll of divorce (property division, alimony, etc.) as well as the amount of time and energy people often devote to the process of ending their marriage, other concerns sometimes arise. For example, some people have difficulty with their self-esteem in the wake of their marriage coming to an end.

It is imperative to focus on your mental and emotional health during and after your divorce. In fact, approaching your divorce properly often helps in this regard.

Despair, one’s appearance and other issues

Sometimes, those who end their marriage struggle with a sense of despair. For example, some people feel worthless or think that they will never have the opportunity to restore happiness in their lives and feel as if they are a failure. Moreover, some people wrongly think that they are unattractive or that their marriage came to an end because of their appearance (even though this has little to do with many divorces). Those who struggle with low self-esteem often feel as if nobody else will love them and that they will never have the ability to find another partner.

The consequences of low self-esteem

Unfortunately, low self-esteem is counterproductive and creates a number of problems. Not only does it often interfere with one’s ability to maneuver through the divorce process, but it often makes it harder for people to move on from their divorce. For example, some people struggle in the workplace as a result of their low self-esteem or have difficulty finding a new partner. If you are facing hardships as a result of your marriage coming to an end, make sure you address these challenges properly and read more about divorce across our website.
